It was Seymour teacher Carrie Gelson’s letter published in The Sun in the fall of 2011 that disclosed how inner-city teachers were being overwhelmed by children not only hungry and ill-dressed, but often in emotional and spiritual anguish.
The public was disturbed by the letter and this newspaper felt compelled to act.
