New Westminster Secondary School needs $6,000 to provide a safe location in the school where high-risk students can make connections and build a relationship with an Outreach Youth Worker.
These workers advise students of services provided by the program to help meet their specific needs.
In addition to a safe place to go and someone to talk to, struggling students are also provided with food and school supplies that they otherwise can’t afford, or don’t have access to.
The bulk of the grant from AAS would be used to cover the costs of breakfast, lunch and snacks, while a small portion is spent on notebooks, pencils, pens and (occasionally) bus passes.
This program is open to 500 students, from the ages of 14 to 18.
