Many students that attend Interagency Alternative Schools come to school without eating breakfast in the morning and often don’t bring a lunch. When children do not have food, it’s impossible for them to concentrate and participate in class. With funding, we will continue to offer a complete, healthy breakfast and lunch in our two programs that run every day. We know that if students in need can expect a nice warm breakfast and a substantial lunch every school day, that they will be excited and ready to learn and feel a sense of stability and support that they don’t always receive at home. Students become more relaxed, happier, they make friends, they are motivated and prepared to go to class and learn throughout the day. There is no doubt proper nutrition is key to student’s learning and life success.
Staff at Trees and Foundations as well as 13 other Interagency programs have signed up to volunteer to operate the breakfast and lunch program each morning and afternoon. Breakfast will include toast, cheese, yogurt, eggs, cereal, milk, fruit and vegetables each morning with occasional special hot breakfasts like French toast or wraps. Lunch will include sandwiches, wraps, fruit and vegetables.
