Lord Selkirk Elementary is asking The Vancouver Sun Adopt-a-School project for a total of $15,000 split over two areas:  Emergency Funds ($6,500) for items for our most vulnerable students/families; such as: clothing, jackets, shoes, sports uniforms, school “pride” clothing, holiday needs (hampers etc), bus tickets, lice kits, food security (hot lunch program at school), hygiene items for students. Enhancement Opportunities ($8,500) for activities for our most vulnerable students/families; such as: travel costs for school teams and field trips, school camps (grade 5 & 7 students), performances, workshops, admission fees, class projects, school supplies, out-of-school care programs.

Lord Selkirk Elementary is the largest Inner City Elementary School in Vancouver. They are in a unique situation this year, with their grade 6 and 7 students at Gladstone Secondary due to seismic upgrading on one of the buildings at Selkirk. With almost 200 students at Gladstone, Lord Selkirk is working very hard to make sure they still feel connected, and continues to offer an “open door” policy should families need help or find themselves struggling to meet the simple needs of everyday life.
