2020 Tamanawis Secondary: Emergency Fund

Completed

Emergency Fund  $5,000

Tamanawis Secondary is an inner city school in Surrey. With enrolment of more than 1400 students in grades 8-12, 19% of our families are defined as low income, 19% are single parent, 40% have moved into or out of the neighborhood in the last five years, and 80% speak a language other than English in the home.

Many students at Tamanawis face daily and complex challenges – lack of food, no transportation, living alone and with no consistent home base, inability to cover extra costs like school supplies, extra-curricular activities or school social events. School counsellors will use the Emergency Fund to cover the emergency costs of food, clothes, transportation, school supplies and extracurricular costs when there is no other way to provide these items to the students. Providing these basics will ensure that students stay connected to school, and focused on learning and graduating.

We will purchase grocery store gift cards, clothes, transit passes, supplies and cover extra-curricular program fees on behalf of at risk and students in need at Tamanawis Secondary.
