Emergency Fund for New Canadian Students  $5000

The Welcome Centre assists English Language Learner (ELL) students and their families and eases their integration into the Surrey school system and community.

Many students who arrive at the Welcome Centre face complex challenges – lack of food, no transportation, living in low income housing or among many families in one apartment, as well as the inability to cover extra costs like school supplies, extra-curricular activities, school social events and the like. The Emergency Fund will be used by the Welcome Centre staff to cover emergency costs for food, clothes, transportation, school supplies and extracurricular costs when there is no other way to provide these items to refugee and immigrant students. Providing these basics will ensure that students have a positive entry to school in Surrey, are connected to school and learning as quickly as possible and can focus energy on learning and acclimating to their new surroundings.
