2020 Coquitlam’s Alternative 10-12 Program

2020 Coquitlam’s Alternative 10-12 Program

Completed

We are an alternate school, supporting students with multiple pathways for academic and personal growth and success.

While there are many factors that will support and contribute to this growth, a key factor to ensuring every opportunity for this growth, is by having students most basic needs met. Food security, both at home and school, basic needs for a healthy night’s sleep, as well as appropriate clothing for our ever changing seasons and activities we encourage our students to participate in.

Our students commute on public transit to our program from all over the tri-cities and beyond. Many hold various part time jobs also requiring safe and appropriate clothing. Our students goals include working towards increasing their overall health and wellness, mentally, physically, emotionally and socially. They stand a much better chance of meeting these goals if we can support all of their most basic needs.

We would like to provide a more substantial grab and go food option for the most vulnerable children in our program, to replace the granola bars I’ve been getting from your local food bank. We would like to augment their food security with healthier and more nourishing options such as yoghurt, cheese, fruit and other items that are more sustaining in warding off hunger. This food would be provided twice a day, every day, morning and afternoon.
